Hiccup car insurance - DON'T DO IT!!!
I purchased Hiccup Insurance (allianz) "zero excess" car insurance when I booked a rental car online through vroomvroomvroom.com.au - In short, this has been the WORST decision of 2015! I hired an AVIS car for the weekend and I was required to drive the car out of the parking garage myself, this was no small task as the garage was no more than 2 car widths wide with vehicles on every side but one and concrete bumpers surrounding every car space. Needless to say I grazed the driver-side lowest panel on one of the bumpers as I was trying to exit the garage. When I went to return the vehicle I knew I would have to pay for the damage but I never expected the nightmare of a process I would be subjected to. I was charged the full excess $3,017 by AVIS despite the scratch being minor and when I insisted that I had paid for "zero excess" they told me I would have to take it up with my insurance provider personally but that I was liale for the full $3,017 up front. It has been almost 2 months since I lodged my claim with Hiccup (Allianz) and after sending through scanned copies of all the voluminous documentation required on the claims form, followed by the original copies mailed to the claims department in Queensland, I have now been informed that I need to acquire a further 2 documents - both of which I have already sent them (in their original copies!) I will now return to AVIS tomorrow to hopefully be given another 2 copies of the original document I have already sent them, then I will mail them out again and invariably I wil not hear from Hiccup (Allianz) for another couple of weeks.... NIGHTMARE! Don't do this. Just buy the car insurance with the car provider, you might not get 'zero excess' but if something goes wrong you will have 100% piece of mind that you wont be screwed around for months on end. I can't get these months of my life back!!!!
