Unable to get vehicle assessed

On the 24th November our son went to Melbourne and a drunk driver ran up his rear at a red light. The offending driver was charged by the police. The tow truck driver said the car would be a write off. On making a claim with Coles Insurance they said they would have the vehicle towed back home. I asked why it could not be assessed in Melbourne, but to no avail. The local driver who was tasked to collect the vehicle also asked the same question. It is over four weeks and the car still has not been assessed despite numerous phone calls. I would hate to think if we were on holiday in the far reaches of Australia which we often do, or if our house burnt down.
