Good and Bad
I've been with Nib for years. Paying $70 or whatever it is month on month for the last eleven years. I am certain that over time I have paid well in excess of the total amount I have claimed. Generally I am fit and healthy and rarely go to the doctor or dentist. I do wear glasses so every second year I have my eyes tested and get myself a new pair of glasses. I also visit the dentist once in a blue moon - probably around every two years or so. I know it is recommended that you visit more often for preventative measures, but Ho-hum, I don't. Anyway, I had a few dentists tell me that I needed to replace some of my old fillings over the last 5 years. I usually ignore them because I feel as though every time you visit a dentist they tell you something is wrong Kaaa--ching! Even though everything feels just fine. After being told this for the third time (by 3 different dentists) in several years I decided to take heed and address their concerns of cracks in my teeth showing up in x-rays. I agreed to have six old (metal) fillings removed and replaced.
I spaced these appointments out over a five month period (in an effort not to break the bank). I was extremely disappointed to learn that I cannot actually claim for the majority of this. There is a $500 limit per person per year. That only covered one appointment. I went ahead with the dentists' recommendations (3 more appointments involving fillings and sealants) under the illusion that I could claim 50% back with Nib. I have barely made any claims in previous years (despite paying ~$900 per year for over ten years) so around $10K. In addition to the $10K I have paid Nib, I am now over $1,000 out of pocket simply because I had some dentist work done THIS YEAR. I am without provision to claim because my $500 limit has been used. WTF!
